A Very Late ApologyXalna looked up from her book and over her reading glasses as Thexlade flounced into the room, loudly announcing that she had succeeded in finding a marvelous dress in her latest shopping spreehardly a necessary escapade, the Superior mentally noted, thinking of the woman's already overflowing closet. She shook her head with a small smile and returned to her book. At least they had a surplus of clothing in an emergency.
She was surprised nothing had changed between she and Thexlade after their encounter in the kitchen. Glad, of coursean unusual tension between them would surely signal to the rest of the Organization that something strange had happened, and it would have made Xalna feel as though Thexlade was perhaps put out by the outcome. Or, alternatively, that there was something within Xalna that regretted telling the woman off for it. However, she still felt a dull pang of guilt about the whole experience.
